"It's never going to happen to me" is what you think as the boats going into the water.
That is hot. Got a Garand in the 70s from the DCM and lost it when the boat sank.
Where did you get the technical manual?
It came with the rifle, actually. Pretty cool, and my dad enjoyed knowing more about something than me. He recited parts of it.
I would like to find one for my father. He like to claim he was the last group to qualify with the M14
I've actually seen them all over. Fulton Armory is great for M14/M1A and Garand parts and accessories. This isn't exactly mine, but close. https://www.fulton-armory.com/m14-technical-manual.aspx
Yeah, I qualified with the M14 in 1971 when I went through Boot Camp in San Diego. Now I own a Scout Squad and a SOCOM 16 CQB. I don't remember it being so heavy...
Excellent job. You'll want this photo -- in a few years, the pick and pull foam will start to fall apart (I've done a LOT of pelican cases for AV gear) and you will need to replace it. When you do, you should consider going with a solid sheet of open-cell foam, and cut out the exact shapes you want. It will last longer than the pick and pull, pretty much until age has deteriorated the foam itself. (Don't use a toolbox style foam like Kaisen or Shadowbox. They are great for tools, but don't give enough for guns.)
Putting a contrasting color (like orange or red) 0.5-1" foam underneath is pretty vital, too. Gives you instant visual when something is missing.
I like it, good ideas, especially the contrasting colors.
Very nice. Great layout too.
I bet the grenade satchel really accelerated the sinking. Nice rifle - sorry for your loss.
The figuring on the stock is very nice too.
