The CMP is a great way for Americans to get their hands on an M1 Garand at below market prices. They sell various grades on their website: https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/m1-garand/ if you want a good condition shooter, order an "Expert Grade" rifle. Everything but the receiver has been replaced, so it'll function great. $1150 the last time I checked. If you want more original, service grades are $900.
If you're a collector who values original barrels and fixing 70 year old guns, field and service grades are an option.
The ordering process is straightforward:
1) Print out their mail order form.
2) Provide proof of membership in a gun or collectors club. If you're in a hurry, the Garand Collectors Association is $35.
3) Go get it notarized.
4) Mail them the form and wait 4-8 weeks (it's a volunteer org...they're busy) for your M1 Garand to be shipped. The first one you order each year comes with a free case. Most non-Commie states dont even require a FFL and can ship straight to your home because the CMP predates that nonsense.
Holy hell, that's great info man, I didn't realize it was that simple, or cheap. How many do you have at this point, you seem to know your shit about CMP, and are talking about the first one that year. At that price I would understand.
Holy shit they do 1911's too! I need to go learn more about this organization.
All my guns were lost in a tragic boating accident. :)
The CMP is a fantastic program. They're currently inventorying Garands that were lent to the Turkish Gendarmerie and only recently returned after decades in foreign service (ok, mostly collecting dust in armories, but who am I to complain?).
