If you’re an American, it’s practically taboo not to own an AR. And if the SHTF .223/5.56 will be the most available rifle ammo. But the AK is a superior platform. It doesn’t need constant maintenance and cleaning to keep it from malfunctioning, and contrary to popular belief it’s not an inaccurate weapon. But mags and ammo will be more scarce in a SHTF situation. It’s possible to get an AK platform chambered in .223/5.56, but mags will be almost impossible to find and also some of the mags are prone to jamming. So unless you’re a firearms aficionado, just stick to the basics. Nothing wrong with a plain Jane AK.
But if you live in ‘Murica, you should own both.
