If a fire arm is discharged accidentally it is a misdemeanor in the united states according to federal law.

EDIT: So if you walked outside carrying a gun and you accidentally shot yourself in the foot(I've heard it has happened) You have committed a crime.

Can you cite that law? Ive never heard such a thing?

i cannot see how this is possible, is this something new?

Its possible people have had accidents with guns as long as they have existed. So should it be a crime or an accident?

it really depends on the incident imo

there has been times here where kids got a hold of a pistol, then fired it. sometimes shooting a family not know they are doing, or possibly harming a sibling. they usually require to lock the up, or have a trigger guard or something around kids

as far as being a crime or accident is like explaining a DUI charge... you hurt no one why i am being charged

tbh, it all comes to the fucking prosecutor of the county on that, i was just thinking the same thing about this last night... well not with guns. but I dont want to get into that, not the right time.

If you are responsible with a firearm there should be zero accidents, and if you have one you should practice with it... think of it like a sword.... its a very difficult subject

Gun laws are both federal and state. Shooting yourself in the foot would refer back to local and state laws. The feds only concern us with their “types of gun” laws, not the use of guns.
