The owners of the Ambassador bridge have tried to block the new bridge for years.

The Moroun family - the American owners of the neighbouring Ambassador Bridge that also connects Detroit to Canada - appealed to Trump during his first term to stop construction of the new bridge, arguing that it infringed on their exclusive ability to collect tolls.

It sounds like that it's being paid for by Canada and will probably be mostly owned by Canada so they would be able to charge the tolls. Maybe I was reading it wrong but that's kind of what I got from it.

I don't think a single company/person/etc that is not American should be able to "own/charge" tolls anywhere that is even attached to the USA. It's our country, you don't get to own any of our infrastructure.
