I have a neighbor who boxes up that stuff and then gives it to me. She has it for two teen agers are they for what ever reason won't eat most of it.
It has some very tasty burritos, mini pizzas, milk, yogurt, raisons, dried cranberries, juice in tiny cartons, cereal and sweet rolls.
The sweet rolls I quit eating because I just can't handle that much sugar. The juice is also sweetened so I finally started dumping that in the trash. It also comes with many small packages of baby carrots.
So, I discovered I can cut open all the raw baby carrot packages and cook them for a few minutes in salty water. Add some butter they are super delicious.
I can drink a bit of the milk take the two cups of yogurt and add to the milk. Shake it up and set it out. I now have a half gallon of very good yogurt in a couple days. Who knew? The small hamburgers aren't the tastiest but are good enough to eat. The burritos are excellent when microwaved. The dried fruit is a great snack in the evening. The cereal is just sugary stuff so I can't eat much of that.
All in all, I think it's a great money saver and I also think this bitch is a lying complainer. Don't like it, don't pick it up. I told my neighbor about the yogurt trick and cooking the carrots so in my last gift box I don't see any carrots, milk or yogurt.
Ah, you fucked yourself out of the good bits! I actually didn't know the milk trick either, so you're definitely not getting mine.
Oh, tip on making your own yogurt with active yogurt cultures. The stuff will clabber up within a day or so and gradually get thicker as the bacillus takes over. Even in the second day when it's just starting to get clumpy the flavor changes and is quite nice. You can still taste the flavor of what ever yogurt you use to start the process. I rather like the faint hint of the fruit flavors. I'm wondering if adding things like strawberry jam would be a good idea or if the sugar in the jam would interfere? Experiments in order for science.
How come you can't just buy carrots?
Add flavoring agents after the cultures have done their thing. I found adding them beforehand can interfere with the process.
Well, it's not like I can't just go buy some carrots the normal way and I do like to give our good neighbor tips on saving money. She's a single mom who also takes care of her dad. She goes to work every day and has a sitter come to watch over her dad when no one else is available.
Yes, I knew when I gave her those tips she would keep the stuff for her and her kids. What puzzles me is that knowing teens, why don't they eat the mini pizzas? I put two of those things on a plate, one minute in the microwave and they are delicious. I like spicy so I give them a liberal dose of crushed chili. The dried cranberries are in my opinion sort of weird tasting but I eat them for my health.
