My water distiller gets rid of lead
So you can remove lead from water with electricity. It's a bit of a project and that's why most people don't do it.
The first step is to spline a short pvc section into your plumping leading to your sink. Most of the time those pipes will be metal (copper) but the pvc will hold pressures well above water pressure.
Next you need to make two holes in the pvc using a heated nail. In the holes you place one graphite rod from a mechanical pencil and one stretch of soldering wire that will act as the collector. It takes a bit of judgement as to how far they should be. About a centimeter apart to half a centimeter is best, and parallel. Seal up the holes with rubber cement. You need to get a drop of the cement on the inside to make it hard for the water pressure to blow it out.
Now you want to get a nine volt battery. Hook the positive to the soldering wire and negative to the graphite rod. The lead will be attracted to the positive rod and you will essentially be plating your soldering wire with the lead that was in the water.
