On one hand if an OP was fooled them selves and "passed the hash" so to say, they may feel like they are doing some good by taking it down and stopping the spread. They also might feel embarrassed.

But the problem is that all discussion about the disinfo is no longer visible to the front page, or actually anybody at this point because apparently comments get deleted if someone deletes a post (I had never realized that).

So the issue with the post above is that someone photoshopped some shoes onto an FBI agent to suggest that she planted a pipe bomb on Jan 5th prior to the peaceful capital gathering. It was honestly the worst photoshop I've ever seen. But it was clear from the comments that people were buying it.

My view is that anything worth arguing isn't worth lying for. I'd love to demonstrate that the FBI is full of terrorist extremists who false flag and orchestrate all kind of bad things. That's true. But you shouldn't have to make up an example by lying. Any time someone lies for your side there is a good chance they are trying to make a community accept lies themselves so that when those lies are discovered the community looses confidence in themselves and this fully demoralizes that community. It also can be intended to make that community look dumb.

For this reason I prefer to view all disinformation as an attack or being passed on by a well meaning person who was fooled themselves but that the material started as an attack somewhere. I am very open to the second one being the case. But in my ideal world we would successfully track down the disinfo to its source. When threads get deleted it doesn't help. If you see disinfo, don't be like me and fail to archive it. Archive it right away.

Remember that the left are the ones receiving the most disinfo, through the news. But they make sure to give us some so they can tell the left that the right is just fooled by disinfo and that they are the ones receiving the true information. That is a false dichotomy, but it works on moronic populations. By accepting the relatively less disinfo that circulates within the right you give power to the disinfo agents on the left whose goal there isn't to embarrass, but to lead useful idiots. The difference with our side is we don't have useful idiots. If and when we have idiots they are very unuseful to us. For example Q folk. They are very unuseful idiots. They are useful to the left more than anybody else.

So if you see disinfo, don't try to hide it. Try to cast as much light on it as possible. If you accidentally shared disinfo, don't delete it. Admit that you made a mistake. Help us figure out where you got it from so we can track down the source. We are going to solve this the exact opposite of the way the left does anything. We aren't going to hide things or suppress fake information the way facebook claims they do. Put it on the front page. Lets talk about it. Fear that will embarrass us, highlighting our own foibles. There is nothing embarrassing about successfully catching disinformation and then wanting to talk about it. If a community can do that then it shows its better than most. There is nothing embarrassing about our community being discerning enough to catch it and then being open enough with the OP to work together to find its origin instead of chasing him off like a mob.

Self-deletion

Self-deletion seems a bit of a misnomer if a comment or post only disappears when a mod or admin (somebody else) gets rid of it.

Is a user able to delete their own content?

Your concern trolling is obvious, Gabby.

Of course users can delete their posts and comments.

That’s exactly what I said in my previous reply.

Self-deletion of posts and comments isn't logged and only happens when mods or admins delete something.

That’s exactly what you said. I can’t make sense of what that means. I have seen a thread here that was completely nuked. Every comment, everything. I don’t know how that happened, and that was part of my original point.

Sometimes I have seen comments where the user name is deleted, but the content remains.

Also: When a mod or admin delete a comment, it is just gone, nowhere to be found. I can understand in cases of TOS violation, but otherwise I think it’s a terrible “feature”. Does this make me too talkative?

That's completely incorrect and because you don't understand something doesn't mean there's a conspiracy behind.

When a comment is deleted by its OP, mod or admin, the name and content of that comment will say [deleted] when browsing in a comment thread.

When a user deletes their account, the content of their comments will remain and only the name will say [deleted]
