The only motive one could have to lie this badly is if they wanted their target to look bad by spreading it.

I would say that the left has a worse problem with fake news than the right does. But to the extent that fake news is a problem on the right, 90% of it is discred ops.

This is why I think we should not only call out disinfo, but when it happens we should ask the OP where they got it from and start tracing it back as far as we can, to see who is engaging in discred ops and how they are successfully leaking it in.

We shouldn't assume the worst in an OP. People get fooled. Disinfo wouldn't be dangerous if that weren't true. But we have to trace it back.

Discred ops and disinfo ops just cost us a presidency, considering the whole Qanon situation and how they interrupted the most important meeting there was for demonstrating voter fraud. Considering we have almost nothing left to lose, the only thing discred ops and disinfo ops can cost us now is our race so that would be the next domino if we fail to trace this.

I'm going to be a -1 on publishing user ip addresses. My only point is that we shouldn't completely fail to investigate disinfo ops. Most of it is posted by well meaning people who get fooled themselves (I guess not in this case). A conversation with them would be a huge improvement to literally doing nothing.

Didnt mean dox the q nutjobs who post error. Meant the obvious ones who delete their accounts after posting. They already deleted, so might as well

Nope. People can delete accounts. In the current circumstances it does demonstrate that the poster is a shithead, but imagine if you deleted your reddit account, and reddit decided that because you deleted your account all of your data is public because you are "no longer one of them."

User rights are important. We want to get to the bottom of this, but doing it in a way that threatens user rights for all of us isn't the way to do it.
