I stopped going years ago. Too many damn people, it used to be a lot smaller and felt like more a community. The last time I went it felt like it was just... Different and not really fun anymore. This, would piss me the fuck off though and also anytime I was at the con I always had ALL of my electronics on me even if I was going to dinner.

From the post:

>Attendees of a cybersecurity conference had mixed reactions to a Las Vegas hotel-casino conducting daily room inspections as a response to their presence in town. Several Def Con 32 participants staying at Resorts World casino-hotel said they were being treated as criminals because they chose to attend a hacking convention. Others said they understood the casino’s position, even if they disagreed with its effectiveness. “(Security) had no idea what they were looking for,” said Korvin Szanto, of Portland, Ore. “They knocked and came in, and showed me a big, long list of stuff that they wanted to look for. It had things like random cables and a USB thumb drive. I said ‘You have these things.’”

Its vegas. Everything is a camera. If its not a camera, it will be soon.

Yet another reason why I wonder why the fuck you would have the largest "hacker con" in the world somewhere where literally every single person is getting tracking on multiple face-rec systems all day every day anywhere they are.

Seems kind of stupid huh? As someone that has gone to defcon a few times, if you are into that sort of stuff I do agree that it is worth going at least once (or it used to be worth it, but you wouldn't know what it looked like back then so you probably wouldn't care).

Also, major tip, it can be a PITA and take some time but stay off-strip and either rent a car or get a taxi or something when you want to spend the day at the con. On-strip was not worth it for what it cost, could have stayed off strip for the same cost and it would have been way better and you get away from the noise when you are done for the night. Food off-strip also costs way less and is really good (from what I remember).

[Edit] was typing before the cam/bedbug update. Ill watch it, I bet I've seen it already though ;) Thanks!

I know right, they should have their supposed hacker con in Massillon, Ohio.

This might just be funny as fuck but I kind of feel like this is a good suggestion. What would be more interesting than a hacker con in a radio quiet zone where you can't have cell phones or radios or WiFi. You just have to... plan ahead and talk to people about those plans and do it the "old way".

Fuck it. I need to go figure this idea out. That actually sounds amazing even though residents of the town(s) that are like this would probably be pissed if it really caught on.
