From the post:

>The right arrow key on my Macbook Pro keyboard stopped working the other day. I say “stopped working”, but technically it works too well now, it is being pressed constantly, which makes the laptop pretty unusable. After getting over the initial frustration of being the owner of a broken device, I cleaned it. Took the keycap off, used a blower, a brush and even alcohol. Nothing worked.

a top case replacement part is around €730. This is like 1/5 of the price of my entire laptop.

$4800 fucking dollars for a laptop?

Forty Fucking Eight Fucking Hundred Fucking Dollars For A Laptop.

And I thought I was stupid.

Most laptops are like this. If your keyboard breaks you may as well buy an entire new machine. It will either cost too much to replace the keyboard, or the part won’t even exist anymore.

Framework is the only company that guarantees you can fix your laptop cheaply years after you bought it.

To replace the keyboard on a Dell, you have to disassemble the laptop. And I mean disassemble. The kit includes thermal paste.

Framework. A company not yet 6 years old. Call me when 15yrs goes by and they can provide a source for the keyboard.

So he can get the keyboard relatively inexpensively, he's just not smart enough to figure out how to fix it himself. Maybe I should send him an e-mail and tell him how to drill out rivets and replace them.

You probably can't buy the keyboard assy by itself, and there's probably no way to re-attach it if you drill out the rivets. Apple has you coming and going.

I thought his solution was perfect: software fix. I do things like that all the time.

I think it's great, but it is more of a work around than a fix.

Watching him rip that keyboard away from the frame is pretty gnarly...guess there's some good in not being able to afford a Mac.
