Is anyone surprised?

From the post:

>Apple designed the ‌AirPods Pro 3‌ with a new foam-infused tip, and the design change is mainly visible under a microscope. You can see a small layer of foam at the top of the earbud where it meets the ear. The AirPods have a 0.221 Wh battery cell inside, while the case has a single 1.334 Wh battery. The AirPods Pro 2 had two battery cells inside the case, and the change explains why we're down to 24 hours of battery life from the case instead of 30 hours like the AirPods Pro 2. The case has fewer rare earth magnets inside, but they've been placed in different locations to ensure that MagSafe and Qi 2 charging still works as expected.

No, no surprise, these are an expensive consumable. You use them for 2-4 years and throw them away. They aren't repairable because they were never meant to be a repairable item.

How are you supposed to get recurring revenue if things can be repaired or last a really long time? There are only so many people that can buy and only a subset of them will buy.

I don't know if it's because I'm a heavy user of earbuds due to my job, but I have never had a pair last more than a year. I listen to massive amounts of books on audio. On average I'm replacing them roughly every 10 months, sometimes in as few as four to five. It's really frustrating because when I do find a pair I like I can never find another pair of them once they burn out. I go through so many earbuds it really does make me wonder about the claims of some people's bodies producing their own electricity and shorting electronics out LOL. There's absolutely no way I'm going to pay what they want for a pair earbuds that I can't be guaranteed or going to last a year. However the built-in AI that will automatically translate other languages is fascinating to me, being an old Trekkie and all.

I have a pair from a few years ago, I use them maybe once a week but you can get Apple care for 3.99 a month for 2 years and they replace them if they break.

I want the new pair for the same reason as you, I’d like to hear what the mexicans around me are saying.

Thanks for the tip, I'm gonna look into that. I spend far too much replacing the darn things. It's become a sick joke in my household...and it's always the left one to go out first.
