In the event of a collision, the brakes are automatically activated and the engine is disengaged and switched off in a fraction of a second. In addition, the front and side airbags are activated. These vehicle functions cannot be deactivated by the user. They can only be influenced by specialists and by intervening in the vehicle's control system. The software of the car's central control electronics must be reprogrammed. The hardware components (controllers and sensors) must be bridged or modified.
Yesterday, the police and the Magdeburg public prosecutor's office officially announced at a press conference that the time window for the fatal drive lasted three minutes (!!!). Three minutes of fatal drive without the engine, forced braking and with the airbags deployed? The question of the technical manipulation of the vehicle is in the air.
