It’s particularly surprising considering the Spanish flu pandemic began in 1918 and the first flu vaccines weren’t developed till the 1930s and weren’t distributed to the public till after the Second World War. Also, noting that “corona” from the Latin word for crown, is used to describe different but unrelated things that have the appearance of crowns is pretty groundbreaking research. All in all I can see no reason to doubt this obviously well read scholar.
