I know folks irl that are NPCs. It's amazing they are wicked smart in other ways but questioning authority doesn't seem to cross their mind. Or they're acting cause they're too scared of social rejection.

No I've seen this in action. I think it's a combination of scholastic book smarts and a lack of taught common sense. The parents were educated but had common sense but worked too much to teach it and in turn raised a high achieving socially awkward scholar.
