Yes, you read that correctly. I've had a miniature bottle of Jameson knocking around for several years now, and we've been on a kick to use up or otherwise dispose of stuff lately. Did a quick search for St. Patrick's Day drinks, and viola - the Irish Duck Fart. Actually the base cocktail (well a shot really) is the Duck Fart. If you get specific with the whiskey it calls for, you get a geographic rendition. Alas I had no Irish cream liqueur, so I stopped off at the local package store on the way back from the paint store and picked up a miniature.
Ingredients
0.5 oz Coffee liqueur (Kahlúa)
0.5 oz Irish cream liqueur (Baileys)
0.5 oz Irish whiskey (Jameson)
Measure and pour the coffee liqueur into the bottom of a shot glass. Measure the cream liqueur, then slowly pour it over the back of a spoon poised immediately over the surface of the coffee liqueur - layering one over the other. Measure the Irish whiskey, and similarly layer it over the top of the Irish cream liqueur. Shoot it, chase it with a beer as appropriate and dance a jig with your favorite leprechaun!
Thoughts
As a rule, I don't do shots much. Occasionally a whiskey shooter and rarely a froo-froo shot like this, but there's a first time for everything. And this is also the first time I've attempted layering a drink like this. The cream liqueur layered smoothly over the coffee liqueur, but the whiskey interacted with the cream liqueur a bit. Perhaps if all of the ingredients were chilled it would go together better? Not a bad tasting shot. Irish whiskey is pretty heavy stuff, and it helped cut through the sweetness of the liqueurs.
4.0/5 Ducks - a decent pour suitable for St. Paddy's Day. Probably won't make one again, but wouldn't turn it down if offered up at a party!
