This is the first, and most likely the only time I will feature candy/junk food, but this one was worth it to share (I do enjoy a good hard candy from time-to-time). We watch these folks on jewtube in the evening as we wind down for the night - Hercules Candies. These folks are the only ones doing it proper; their 'hot' candy is, well, hot! That said, I have only tried these folks' hot candy so I am biased and from this I needn't try any others. Hercules Candies touts they procure their 'Wicked Tickle black Skull Ghost Pepper powder' from Electric Pepper Company. The powder is granular and you will notice it immediately in the candy - it feels gritty at the go, but it does not remain gritty.
Ingredients:
Sugar;
Corn Syrup;
Water;
Ghost Pepper Powder;
Orange Oil;
Food Coloring;
Cream of Tartar; and
Soy Shortening
The candy is orange flavored, but I must confess a lemon (or a lime oil) would have been better, but, I am biased since I tend to eat raw lemons. In any case, citrus was the correct pairing for Ghost. If you are a chile-head and enjoy a hard candy, these are for you - I would not recommend giving these to children, but that onus does not fall on me. There is a warning on the bag, that does give a blanket statement that Ghosts can reach or exceed 1M SHU, but these candies are not 1M SHU lest I have become so broken that I can no longer judge SHU somewhat accurately. I would place these at ~60k-80k (maybe 100k and 100 is a hard push).
