Kids, am I right?

This makes me want to pull up Eagle and draw up an ATX form factor ZX-81 PCB. It would be crazy simple considering the original board had like only four chips and a handful of passive components.The case would be mostly empty and the power supply would be massive overkill, but it would be cool AF.

I have had my eye on the Minstrel(thefuturewas8bit.com) for a while as a fun project to do with my oldest. There are a few Specy kits out there since they didn't go the custom chip route that Commodore did.

That's pretty cool, but the keyboard seems worse than the original membrane keyboard. I can't imagine typing on that since it would be rather painful in no time as those tiny SMT buttons would dig into your fingertips. I'd definitely want to do a conversion to a real keyboard but I'd have to get/make custom key caps in order to get the Sinclair multi-function layout. Also seems a bit pricey so perhaps I will look into spinning my own board.

Oh for sure, typing on smt tacs is the worst. Good thing that is is just a simple matrix keyboard so you could wire up cherries or whatever switch and roll your own.
