I’m sick of these people. They can communicate with you but you can’t communicate with them. If I were a hiring manager, nearly there, I would insta fire anyone who does it without even asking you to stop.

If you don’t know that your job is to be available for people to talk to you, and you don’t recognize that it is rude to every worker around you to make them raise there voice just to tell you something, then you don’t have enough sense generally to be hired anywhere.

I’m about done pretending to have any respect for these people. The sad thing is because I am professional I have to get along with people who aren’t, but this one really pushes it.

The worst part is the potential for selective hearing. It’s just a passive aggressive way of saying, don’t ask me. Well I think we should treat them as if they didn’t have the air buds or head phones on. If I yell, hey I need you to do X and then go off to do 20 other things and you don’t do it, you’re fired. It’s not my fault you were in a permanent conversation with your girlfriend. Even worse so if this was a repeat issue which it constantly is with someone with ear buds.

I am one of the most lax managers around and I really appreciate that so many work places have started to relax on things that don’t matter. I remember when I started work the culture was different and I hated it. I especially would hate to be the manager who sweats the small stuff.

But that’s even more why it would be an insta fire. If this is how workers do with an environment where they can use their phone every now and again with less strict hours, then they are ruining it for everyone.

I don’t want to be your dad. And if you put me in a position where I have to be when you could have applied common sense. Sorry, you are fired.

Go to your HR dept. and tell them your coworker has been rude and disrespectful since he knew you identified as a woman.

Ironically, the people who need to be told this the most probably can't hear you.

That’s more real than funny. It would be nice to calmly ask, could you not wear headphones at work. But instead I have to yell at them, making it a bigger deal than it has to be.

That’s exactly why it’s wrong. If people can’t receive feedback without being yelled at, they should be prepared to be yelled at a lot at work. It requires confrontation over little things.

And if the culture of the business is one where you don’t yell at people, there’s no option but to let them go. I’d hope that would be 100% of business.

Depends on the job, depends on the coworkers.

Yeah it would be fucking infuriating to me... the only thing that would make it tolerable would be for them to set up or arrange some awkwardness/rudeness-avoiding way to attract their attention that they and everyone agree to, so that it never seems like an imposition to "bother" them despite their isolation

I wear a head phone at work.
