And judging by how smoothly things have gone, I wouldn't work for one.

I have done all three.

And in my 20 years of working experience I can honestly say. It all depends on the person.

Worked for:

I had some great supervisors (fast food) that were fair, would pick up the slack were it was needed. Manager, same place. Was a crazy cat lady who shouldn't have been allowed to mingle with the general public.

Current day job, manager is great. She treats us great. And honestly, I can appeal to her motherly instincts. When my kids are sick it is no problem to take a day off.

Alongside:

Depends on the job... more or less. Food service, most times better than the pussy men that work it. Manual labor, I'll take an all man crew any day. Office work 50/50.

Managed:

I was a supervisor for a specialized technical repair department for a multi million dollar company. Some of my best workers were female. But I also pride myself in finding and knowing peoples strong points. So I would task my workers with jobs I knew they were good at. The not so good ones normally didn't last long anyway. However, it did suck wasting all that time training just to replace them a couple months later. Because you still have to treat and train everyone equally... doesn't mean everyone learns equally.

So really it all depends on the person. Race, sex, religion. These normally have their rules. But there is always an exception to the rule. So I believe in giving everyone a fair chance. However, that doesn't mean treat everyone equal or with open arms. Respect is earned, not given.

Same. Depends on the person.
