Most people don't realize that The Gulag Archipelago is not historically accurate fiction; it is not a novel about Communist Russia at that time. What it is is a record of what went on during the trials and in the camps. The main difference between the full ie. unabridged and the abridged versions is the former has a lot more details in terms of who and when. I haven't tried to read it but apparently it's a terrible slog and really mostly of interest and value to people who were personally connected to those events. The abridged version is on my table but I'm still a few books away from starting it. To be honest I'm a little nervous over the prospect.

I read the same. Was still good. It doesn’t really touch on the Jew thing. It should. Maybe that stuff was taken out.

Only ever read the unabridged version. There's a really good audiobook of it on jewtube.

I think that's what most people end up reading. Author approved of it.

Where'd you get it?

Lucky find at a thrift store. Even has written notes in places

Was unabridged not to be had?

Believe it's over a thousand pages

It's like 1,800 in the 3 volume version I have lol. That does include glossaries and notes etc.

Sweet. It is author approved. Wonder if any jew stuff was cut out though

That soounds excellent. I really like annotated books (old Shakespeare) that have tons of descriptive footnotes and glossaries to help flesh out the information/story.
