I picked up a copy of this book and it's sequel, Metamagical Themas years ago, and still struggle to understand it's contents. They are great texts to exercise your logical mind, with plenty of diagrams, anecdotes and small stories in between.
I haven't read the entire article yet because it is in some ways even denser than the books, but it's always nice to have more reading material queued up.

All I got out of it was an interest in Eschers drawings. 'Hand holding reflective globe' is my favourite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUrGtXbg_6I

I tried and tried to get into GEB but the dense text and lofty, complex concepts proved impenetrable to me. When I put the book down for the last time I had to face the harsh truth that I was not as smart as I thought I was. And on that day I got a little smarter. But I'm still not smart enough to read GEB. Not by a long shot.

The article is interesting -- not that I read all of it -- but mostly underscores the fact that I was way in over my head.

Basically how I react to it as well. It's good to delve into stuff you don't understand sometimes

You're absolutely right. But GEB was like a whole different plane of intellectual existence. Humbling.
