It's just odd to me that they would take a series with over 12 books and its own reference book and think they could make it more appealing by bastardizing it.
The most egregious part is that it is in a series format, not a feature length film format, so there is no reason to leave stuff out or shorten things.
They could have milked it for 12 seasons but had to shit in the pot instead.

That's the point I made to my wife about it. There was absolutely no reason to be anything less than faithful to the books.
