Ray Bradbury got the future wrong. They aren’t burning books. There are more of them than ever, purchased and distributed by the state and its partners, along with all the rest of the media.

The books weren’t the threat. The information was. They haven’t set it on fire. They’ve drowned it.

Our history is being overwritten. Our classics are being "corrected." Huckleberry Finn doesn't contain the word "nigger" anymore. Neither does To Kill A Mockingbird. Forbidden truths are ignored or denied. We may well reach a stage of oppression where only older books, published before the coming of the fascists, are to be trusted and believed.

Electronic information is too malleable to be trusted. The pages on Wikipedia change on a daily basis. Dictionaries are being re-written to "update" the meanings of words. Today, we've never been at war with East Asia ... tomorrow, we've always been at war with East Asia. "They're here! They're here!" Whatever you do, don't fall asleep.
