I keep coming across mentions of this Roland character in passing. I.e. the "Roland Special" pistol that General Scott Miller carries around named after the character in the books. I've never been a big fantasy reader; I always liked the Dune series (I guess that's not really in the genre) but thought the Elric of Melnibone series was ok at best. I've read some other fantasy books that were pretty terrible.

I don't care about the movie where they cast a nigger as Roland.

Never did. It looks like a sword and sorcery?

Dark tower is one part western, one part king Arthur. One part inter-diminsonal mind fuck

That sounds better.

It is sword and sorcery, I liked it a lot when I was young but reread it later and found it kinda goofy. But that's my baseline for fantasy novels which is why I asked.

Oh yeah no its not really that kind of fantasy.

Yeah those are very haphazard. Like guy walking along but goes into the forest of woe. Then birds of woe attack but the guy uses some magic that you had no idea he could do before. So he makes it through but then has to go through the desert of woe.
