I keep coming across mentions of this Roland character in passing. I.e. the "Roland Special" pistol that General Scott Miller carries around named after the character in the books. I've never been a big fantasy reader; I always liked the Dune series (I guess that's not really in the genre) but thought the Elric of Melnibone series was ok at best. I've read some other fantasy books that were pretty terrible.

I don't care about the movie where they cast a nigger as Roland.

Oh dear god yes. Stephen king is a massive faggot of a person but holy moly this series is fantastic.

Came in here to second this. It's a sprawling noir fantasy/post-apocalyptic/Western epic with references to dozens of his books within it. Easily one of the best fiction series ever written, even if Stephen King is a commie sonuvabitch.

Sounds good thanks. I've been picking terrible books myself lately, didn't even finish the last one.

Ok I'll give it a try. Did you read the Elric Saga?

Never did. It looks like a sword and sorcery?

Dark tower is one part western, one part king Arthur. One part inter-diminsonal mind fuck

That sounds better.

It is sword and sorcery, I liked it a lot when I was young but reread it later and found it kinda goofy. But that's my baseline for fantasy novels which is why I asked.
