Merleau Ponty Maurice was a contemporary of French post-Marxist philosophers such as Jean Paul Sartre and Guy Debord.
In this text, Maurice offers criticism of Marx's central tenet of the proletariat.

In my early years I was influenced by Guy Debord and his 'Situationists', Jacques Derrida's deconstruction theory as well as such films as My Dinner With Andre, Peter Sellers' The Magic Christian, and the works of Monty Python, without realizing their Marxist backgrounds.
I have since moved on from my radical leftist past, obviously, but continue to study philosophy, in particular the French scene of the mid 1950's, in order to better understand it's flaws and how these ideas continue to influence our current youth.
