So I read this as a teenager and just did again. I dont think Ill be reading Carlos Castaneda again after reading this like I planned to. Some things are better thru a drug addled mind evidently.

I felt for the kid in the book. Hid dad was a nut job and his son had to deal with it all.

The kid, Chris, got stabbed to death in the early '80s in San Francisco. I don't recall the circumstances.

Main reason to read it would be for his description of motorcycle travel across N.Dakota and Montana on two lane highways. Includes musings on philosophy and flashbacks to a schizophrenic breakdown.
