This is only shocking to people who don't think. This is primarily why I do not install apps like Facebook or use smart speakers. I also play music to my phone in case the OS doesn't respect permissions i set. This way, if an audio channel is open, it gets a solid stream of music.

  1. Don't download apps.
  2. Set all your permissions to deny use of everything. Then selectively allow permissions only when the app is running in the foreground.

Of course, this may be meaningless if the OS permissions can be circumvented. This is why you should simply play music to your phone using an MP3 player or radio.

It goes without saying smart speakers should not even be around you. Your car's on board entertainment system also has a microphone running 24/7. The best thing to do is find the cellular radio and simply unplug the antenna coax. Your car will still function fine but will be unable to send telemetry data and audio data to your car's manufacturer.
