Bochi za rock : I hate fans going nuts about it , "omg implied yuri" but it's fun for being fun, and I really liked it.

Spy x Family : same reason

And Goblin Slayer was also great. People hate on the fighter class, "can wield anything, not a master of anything" but being able to adapt is what he means to use to kill goblins and is smart.

I've been rewatching samurai champloo lately, since I had mostly forgotten about it.

Tengoku Daimakyou for its excellent atmosphere and rich story in a fucked up post-apocalyptic world, this is what the Fallout TV show should have been.

Jigokuraku has an interesting premise and I liked it because it's set in a Sengoku feudal era.

Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song was an interesting take on AI and androids and how they would live in society, whether they would be helpful or become a big threat.

I liked Yofukashi no Uta a lot, because I could relate to it as a fellow night walker.

Odd Taxi has a crazy twist at the end that you don't see coming.

Baki is always great.

Frieren was nice, but later it kind of turned into a typical battle shounen with generic isekai elements.

The Apothecary Diaries that was set in China and in a rear palace of all things, a very interesting and unique perspective you don't see very often.

Ishura and Juni Taisen: Zodiac War for that Battle Royale fix.

The Witch and the Beast had an interesting dynamic between an unwilling protagonist who was cursed by a witch and a supporting character who's just doing his job and has to babysit the former. Things seem to ramp up for the second season.

Akudama Drive had an amazing cyberpunk feel to it, better than Trigger's anime imo.

The latest Girls & Panzer movie was a big step up in terms of CGI with how they used Unreal Engine to create the entire sets for ultimate action scenes with great feedback.

Lately I also read Gantz and watched Inuyashiki (both by the same author), totally insane and has that no fucks given feel to it. Gantz in particular felt like XCom in manga form. Under Ninja had a similar sardonic vibe as well.

Dark Gathering was an interesting twist on horror and exorcism, where the ghosts aren't just banished, but subdued and conquered for the purpose of using them against other ghosts to fight each other. The protagonist is completely insane, reminded me of the eccentric ghost collector from 13 Ghosts who was the main antagonist.

And speaking of odd stuff, Bravern for its insane take on mecha and sentai genre, and Bucchigiri?! for being a parody on Aladdin's story and meshing Japanese and sort of Persian elements in environment. The protagonist in the latter is a complete irredeemable trash though, but it seems intentional. He's the type who'd be a minor character in any other anime that gets killed off early on for being a dumbass lmao.

I also watched a bunch of popcorn isekai slop from the previous seasons, and they were actually kind of nice. For example, one had an adventurer who was instakilled by a surprise dragon in an unexplored part of the noob dungeon, so he was resurrected as an undead who had to work his way back to being a proper member of society (Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha). In another, the protagonist has a cheat ability, and you'd think it'd be meh, but it turns out he's actually some kind of SCP entity due to his insane ability to kill anyone who wishes him harm, so he had to be contained (Sokushi Cheat ga Saikyou Sugite).

Currently watching Ninja Kamui, which has to be one of the better action anime of late. It's also mostly set in America and has serious John Wick vibes.

Need to get around to watching the 2nd remake of fruits basket. The first was so different from the manga is was painful
