I do wonder if the tax credits are worth the jobs. It's almost a mob like situation.
It is due to ancillary jobs created by Amazon. All of those employees need an accountant, car repairman, food, etc.

Does this work as well with the sports stadiums people always complain about government paying for as well?
pretty much...but you have to make sure the government does not give too much to keep the benefit cost ratio up
