Those appliances were cleaned with a solution that contains water.

And the appliance, a grill or frying pan, gets well above 175 degrees F where any bacteria bite the dust. I suspect that more germs come from handling the food than could possibly be transferred when frying it. They didn't even do use a microscope to look for bacteria. It's not hard, just not understood by politicians. This smacks of commie level of control.

what about viruses?

What about them? They're not the primary cause of sickness carried in the water supply, bacteria is when soil gets into drinking water. Surface level contamination can also carry other nasty bugs, like protozoa that can really mess you up. Most viral infections we get are transmitted via air or touch, not from water.
