Freedom of religion is procured in the first amendment of the US Constitution. Churches in America do not have to pay property taxes. By Genesis 1:28, humans should take dominion over the land, sea, and air.

The United Methodist Church is in the process of breaking up due to gay marriage. Use half of the UMC to buy land and 'take dominion over it.' Since the churches do not pay property taxes, the land will NEVER be owned by anyone else. The Federal Government cannot confiscate the property by imminent domain because it violates the first amendment.

The land bought can be used by members of the UMC for parks, recreation, hunting, etc.

Can they put in housing?

I don't know. I think if they are 'employed' by the church then yes. Think of it as a 'parsonage' or housing for the 'needy'. It might depend on the state involved.
