The story that made it back to the Wyoming Department of Transportation about what happened to the sign was someone dumped it “in the desert.” It’s the latest in a series of road sign thefts in Park County that are costing WYDOT and taxpayers a lot of money — and especially for anyone cycling through the tunnel, unnecessarily dangerous. Recovering stolen signs doesn’t happen often, but WYDOT pulled out some serious investigative skills to find this one, and it was far from “in the desert.” The warning sign will soon be returned to its original location, where it will keep cyclists safe on U.S. Highway 14/16/20.
