This kind of shit happens all the time during war. Which is why when people say, "Do you think Russia has committed war crimes?", my response is "Yeah, probably." It's too easy to have a target mis-ID when the enemy has a habit of hanging out near civilians (like the Ukrainians do now).
The real war crimes are when this is done deliberately, like when the Ukies kneecapped and possibly killed those Russian prisoners, or when the US tortured people at Abu Ghraib. I haven't yet seen any evidence of that on the Russian side.
