Yeah, thought so somehow, Alsace and Savoy are both dark blue. Those areas are historically alpine culture (so celtic/german). They tend to be more independent and much less servile than the rest of France. There's a similar region in Italy (Tyrol) which also pushes for independence on a regular basis, and is nowhere near as far left as the rest of the country.
You could be right about Brittany and Normandy though. I know the Bretons had a pro-nazi independence movement during WW2 called the Gwyn e du (black and white). I gather they don't waste any love on Paris.
