A patient positive for the new variant of the coronavirus has been identified in Italy. "The Scientific Department of the Military Polyclinic of rome, that in this emergency is collaborating with the national Institute of Health, has sequenced the genome of the virus SARS-CoV-2 from a subject positive result with the variant found in the last few weeks in Britain," reads a note from the ministry of Health.
"The patient and his partner, returned in recent days from the United Kingdom with a flight landed at the Fiumicino airport, are in isolation and have followed, together with the other family members and close contacts, all of the procedures laid down by the Ministry of Health," the note continues.
STOP flights-Italy, like other countries, has ordered the stop to flights with Great Britain. The minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, has signed an ordinance valid until January 6. "I have signed a new ordinance that blocks flights departing from Great Britain and prohibits the entry into Italy of those who have transited there in the last 14 days. Anyone who is already in Italy, coming from that territory, is required to undergo antigenic or molecular buffer by contacting the prevention departments", announced Speranza with a post on Facebook.
EU - the European Commission urges Member States to" coordinate " on the issue of blocking flights from Britain, after the alarm caused by the spread of the new variant of the coronavirus registered in England. "The Commission - told Adnkronos the spokesman on duty of the EU executive Tim McPhie - is in contact with the member states to facilitate the exchange of information and encourage them to coordinate among themselves".
