Makes sense for a good chunk of our service industries. But I tend to think if you don't have to be anywhere in particular to produce value, when the collapse comes what skills do you have in the new economy?

That is why you should spend some time educating yourself on other things that are useful.

Treating wounds, gardening/farming, repairing vehicles, basic construction skills (wood working, electrical, etc..) If you don't have to waste 1-4 hours a day on a commute that frees up a lot of time to get other useful skills. It can also save you a LOT of money when you can repair your car yourself with some cheap tools and a repair manual.

And 99.99% of the remote workers won't educate themselves thusly and they'll be sitting ducks in their houses.

That will be their problem. If they are not lazy and can take direction maybe they can be used for manual labor.
