Came here to say that. F*ck Microsoft. You will either own your computer or they will, it really is that simple. It's not like being a complete piece of trash is new from a MS operating system, but now you have to make a choice: Is your computer going to be yours, or theirs?
The logic of running a VPN in the first place is incomplete if you are trying to do it on a Windows box. You have no way of knowing just what at random is or will subvert your efforts. The mere notion of privacy on Windows is farcical.
To be fair, I love Kubuntu and have used it for years but have similar concerns about systemd. For now I keep it at bay but resent its presence, just too lazy to switch to something purer.
The main guy pushing and writing systemd just quit (redhat) to go work for Microsoft. Embrace Extend Extinguish (The Microsoft motto).

Edit: Fuck. Time to move. Pisses me off. So much of my day jobs is entrenched in daemon code and my company has already abandoned the Sys V approach in favor of systemd.
