linux mint cinnamon, faster and lower specs needed than windows. Recommend having an intel processor with graphics on the cpu. The nvidia driver is a blob aka an encrypted zip file so the linux maintainers cannot view it or how it works directly so you don't have as much control as windows xp control panel had back 10 years ago. The software is free and you can download to the desktop virus free software though since Linux I haven't had a single virus or malware either. https://www.linuxmint.com/ install a program called etches to burn the iso to a usb stick to install.
