I actually read the prose edda. Its very clear it was meant for entertainent. It meant a lot to the people as it was the stories told by their ancestors. But it was never meant to believed and I dont think anyone ACTUALLY believed it. It was more of a "we are all lord of the rings fans and anyone who isnt will get their dick cut off"
