Back in the dial-up BBS days, we had to shorten sentences into acronyms and figure out a way to convey emotion via text. Reading someone's tone of voice is impossible.

Emoji serve a purpose. But, as when pointed out, you add 50 clapping emoji after every sentence you should be taken outside and slapped around.

Technically, ;-) is an emoticon, not an emoji. I don't really have an issue with emoticons for the reason you specified.

Sometimes it is difficult to convey emotion, in those cases I believe an emoji is appropriate to prevent misunderstandings. But when repeated in a line, used as a sentence, or when used in every post, yes, you are absolutely correct.

That's the problem. People use emoji's whenever it's "tough to convey my emotions" instead of actually learning how to write a meaningful statement.

It encourages laziness and emotional stupidity imo.

I find that I only use one (the standard smiley face), and for some reason, only when I'm talking to a woman.

I just don't get it. Why would you ever need to include a little icon of a shit or war of corn in a sentence, ever?

However, I have NEVER seen an emoji used to greater effect to convey a message than a well written statement.

My biggest issue with emoji's is they're used as a crutch to avoid having to learn effective writing to convey your thoughts.
