The sad thing is a lot of the new users that did stay might think the site is dead. It's not dead. You just need to look at /all/new for the next couple days.

And if you do those items will have visibility, and will get upvoted, and we will get out of this funk quicker.

This happens on all sites. I've seen it on Voat many times.

That's what I've been doing as well as checking out other stuff or working on my own sub for now.

Exactly, when you can't find decent content we make our own posts to keep the pages fresh. I add to others sub also because some haven't had posters in a while.

It doesn't bother me. There is a lot of content to catch up on in my subscriptions.

Poal or Voat, the only way to actually view the site is /all/new. Never do anything else. I could give a rats ass what other folks upvote ... I want content that interests me and that's the way to find it.

and to get it so everyone else sees it also. I agree with that because I went to funny and most of it is kind of lame imo.

Yeah I've been trying for content.

Work has kept me busy

You can make it not happen based on the hotness algorithm. The hotness setup for notabug.io is pulled from open source reddit, and it's pretty good at churning through content even when it gets a disproportionately large amount of upvotes (which happens often when people can vote as much their CPU allows)

It's a tradeoff though, between better highlighting/distinguishing the "best" content and keeping things fresh.

I pretty much exclusively browse poal by /new.

Help me fix my computer?

Hey Theo, are you asking me specifically? I think the advice you got in that thread is better than anything I can give you. I don't know wifi for shit.

Something you can do though is when you reinstall linux, if you end up having to do that, you can put your /home on a separate partition. I also used to keep my personal data in a separate partion from home because there is something different about your actual files and local configurations. But I suggest doing one of the two because then you can install different linuxes like it was nothing, and if things break you don't have to separate all your data out of a broken system.

Ye buddy. Sorting by "new" is my goto on low activity sites. Still do so on voat, as the default only really changes once a day or so.

Speaking from the perspective of someone who had migrated sites several times over the years I can say that the early migrators are probably used to this. I can remember the same thing happening when I first went to Reddit from Diff, then to Voat from Reddit, and now from Voat to here.

I am a programmer though so I have a pretty good understanding of why the algorithm is doing that.

I'm out of the loop, what's going on that made new users flood in?

I don't think it's dead and I'm contributing regularly.
