That's it. I received an email telling me that my internet and tv would be upgraded and I would be paying more for it "promotionally", or I could opt to keep my plan, but oy vey, the price would be the same because it was not "promotional". Then I took a look on the concurrency, signed a "promotional" internet only plan and cancelled my bundle. Now I'm paying "promotionally" way less than I was, my internet is faster and I have one year until they try to fuck me again and I have to change company again.

Honestly, not a minute too soon. There's nothing to see on tv and the only function of a telephone line is being constantly annoyed by telemarketing call bots.

Lol, right. We have only briefly had tv and a land line in 14 yrs. So in total maybe 1-2 of those yrs.

Yea, when I did that they tried to surcharge me months later for 'equipment' even though I returned 100% of their shitty boxes. Scum.

Congrats! It's a good move. We cut ours almost tow years ago when I discovered that a whole house digital antenna let us watch local news and old timey TV shows on all of our TVs, using an 8 channel amp connected to the already in wall cable company's old lines. I did physically snip it where the real cable came into the house from a pole. We also dropped cable Internet, which had a cap that I always came close to exceeding. With mostly streaming, I knew I'd exceed it. Fortunately, the local phone company had recently upgraded their DSL to 24 Mbps, which since we switched, plays 4k HDR smoothly. Today we save about $130 per month. We stream network shows, not on commercial free Hulu, from my laptop to the TV with an HDMI cable, Chrome with uBlock Origin and new Edge 76 with uBlock Origin mostly plays the shows without commercials. I hate commercial breaks during entertainment.

DSL to 24 Mbps

Another thing they do is pushing speeds you don't need. My connection was 100Mbps, they wanted to upgrade it to 300. Why the fuck would I need this? The current connection is 120Mbps, and I only took this because the price of the inferior plan was almost the same, and this gives me some reserve for speed variations.

6 Mbps streams 1080p smoothly. 18 Mbps streams 4k smoothly. Cable companies sell a dream of being better by going to faster speeds, which are beneficial if you have multiple people all using a lot of bandwidth simultaneously. That's the only sensible use case for higher Internet speeds.

Good on you! they have tried to get us to do a bundle when we moved. We said no thanks, even if it's more we just want internet.

Anytime they offer an advantage, it's a catch. Every single time.

So true. I'm so glad we don't have tv, mainly because my kids are exposed to so many less commercials then we were are kids. But also the mindless channel surfing is not a temptation, such a waste of time.

I haven't had a cable account in twenty years and I don't miss it a bit. If there's something I'm interested in I'll wait till the series is done and do a month subscription on their streaming service and binge watch and still come out paying less then a DVD set.

Yep, that was my conclusion. We have Netflix (yet) and Prime, we can rent movies on Google play, and honestly, we're not watching shit. My wife still watches the news sometimes, but we can use the air signal, and some news channels on the internet. I can't anymore, they're too obviously biased. The rest of the shows and movies are old or pure crap. Brazilian tv is an idiot factory. What the fuck was I paying for?

The bad side is that the more people do this, more they'll charge for internet only connections...

Congrats I did that about 15 years ago. Never looked back. Just don't ask about my internet bill.

At least you're paying for something you're really using.

I only wish I could get better upload speeds.

IDK how it works up there. Here, business plans have the same dl/ul speed, but they're just too expensive.
