I knew it was a cover, but thats about it. I've always liked the cover better than the original, but will give the original another listen, now that I know the backstory :)
I member my dad made me play this song on repeat when I bought the CD single years ago. I wonder if it was the nostalgia from him remembering the original and surrounding events.
Around this time there were a handful of "splatter platters" and "death disks" made. Leader of the pack, Tell laura I love her, Dead man's curve, Teen Angel, Honey. Along with last kiss, my other favorite was . They played on the emotions of teenagers facing death. Powerful stuff when marketed well.
