You must think that "boomers" controlled the economy. You're confusing the elites, who make changes that help themselves gain wealth, with regular people that scrape by and do the best they can. The same thing still happens. The only blame falls on those that back then made changes to save money, today move jobs overseas to save money The typical people don't have shit to do with it. They go with the flow that started on top by the wealthy.
The elites make unimaginable amounts of money no matter what. They're also so divorced from reality, they could never even dream of most of the stuff on this list. That's why whenever something truly innovative (petrol, automobiles, electricity, telecommunications, computing) comes along, they're always caught with their pants down, and a new group joins them. Worrying about every day conveniences like this is completely beneath them.
Most of this stuff was the result of middle management and marketers trying to justify their existence. The elites tell them "Make me more money", and the middle managers and marketers dream up all of this stuff to in hopes of getting slightly more table scraps. Who are the middle managers and marketers? The middle class white collar everymen.
