Maybe it's a fundamental difference in dogma. Liberals believe the government should provide for the needs of all citizens. In this world, what is the role of charity? As a libertarian-conservative, I believe charity should be doing much of the work the government currently does.

That's the argument I usually use when people bring up healthcare and whatnot. I just point out that before, the community, usually through the church, used to take care of these things, not the government. It required people to participate in their community and not be a piece of shit, in case shit went down for them and they needed the help of the community. By replacing the community with government, we're actively causing people to be sad depressed piece of shit loners that are incapable of interacting socially. Usually hits said sad depressed piece of shit loners really hard, causing them to reevaluate their lives. A few of them started going to church, despite not being religious.

I work in healthcare and many of the people on Medicaid are such pieces of shit even their family wants nothing to do with them. Yet the government is obligated to care for them. It's better how you describe. It forces people to be somewhat accountable for themselves.

It helps keep people in line. Even the biggest pieces of shit are required to at least pretend to be decent and charitable, if only as a matter of self interest. The second we replaced community with government, everything started going to shit.
