Agree. These kinda things really do show how middle management at any organization have no reason for being.
Whenever my manager had one of those 'team' meeting type things, I would always tell anyone who would listen that if the guy just walked around and talked to his so called people every once in awhile, he'd know what they were doing and how he might help a lot more efficiently than by calling a meeting to discuss it ... plus we could actually get some work done in the process. LOL
I've got a manager at the moment, all he does is waste everyone's time, like he specifically made a trip to our work place from his to put up a fucking sign and explain it to every single employee individually, and that sign was common fucking sense. Why exactly couldn't this have been done in an email? Why did he need to pull everyone individually away from their job to listen to the same speech I heard 9 times through out the day.... Don't drink the koolaid just don't.
People with no real function, and even they know it - LOL
