One summer in college I got to witness the vast stupidity of humans. I worked as a hostess at a restaurant that sat at the bottom of an escalator. The damn thing broke. The number of people who would step on, realize it wasn't moving, GET OFF AND WALK OVER TO ME TO ASK IF THERE WAS ANOTHER WAY AROUND was astounding. I would just respond, "yeah, use the stairs" and point to the escalator. A handful of people would sometimes laugh when they realized how dumb they just were, but so many of them didn't.

Totally not lying. I will say I did not come up with that line. My manager did, then I stole it. We had fun people watching and taking bets on who would figure it out and who wouldn't. One of the servers even started narrarating the action. It was a fun week. But true story, people are that dumb.
