I upvote posts that provoke a good discussion, even if OPs idea that started the discussion is garbage. We should not assume suggestions that have a lot of upvotes are good or even popular ideas.

Hmm I’m interested to see what the community has to say about this. I upvote decent content by default most of the time just due to wanting to encourage people to post.

If everyone had my voting habits we'd still be waiting for someone to get the first yellow username.

Once upon a time, I voted in a similar manor but after starting poal I felt a change was needed to get things moving.

I upvote almost everything using PMBY2's theory that it encourages more participation. The only exception being that unless it's serious spam or someone itching for one, I rarely down vote, if I don't like it, I just don't upvote.

I upvote everything that contributes to poal.

can we get a 24 hour global sticky on this post?

Which is why Poal needs a tagging system, so we can publicly tag posts with a variety of things like, troll, kike, nigger-talk, OC, ...

Then if a post shows nigger-talk>5 I can set my client to hide it from my view.

I upvote items I want to see discussed, regardless of whether I agree with them. Unless it's clearly SPAM or such.

Exactly. And I think OPs need to be periodically reminded that just because their idea has a lot of upvotes doesn't mean it's not trash.

I generally don't upvote or downvote. I'll upvote people in a thread that I start, if it's a worthwhile comment. Also if there's a thread that I feel is important, I'll upvote that.

I only really downvote aggressively shitty comments or blatant propaganda.

I agree with this. This is a good way to look at points.

Which is why I don't think we should give a shit about point totals.

I suggest we do regular random events where peoples points get all fucked around. People's points get switched randomly for a week. Point resets. 420 for all on april 20th, shit like that.

Only points on individual posts and comments matter.
